A short rant about addictive design
Democracy Squared
Facebook was launched in 2004 and the iPhone launched in 2007. In the time since we have developed a new behavioural addiction: technology. This isn't by mistake but by design. In this short book I take you through the logic by which 5 huge companies have come to put devices in the pockets of a billion people, and how they are using breakthroughs in neuroscience and psychology to get us addicted to their products. This is harming our happiness, limiting our freedom, damaging relationships and eroding democracy. If you under the illusion that you are in full control of your choices, I hope this short rant offers a thought provoking counterpoint.
